Butt implants removal and change

The buttocks are a symbol of femininity and beauty, just like the breasts! The shape and size of the buttocks play a central role in many women’s body image and thus also in their self-esteem. In recent years, several women have opted for buttock augmentation with implants. However, after a certain period of time, an implant replacement or removal may be desired. The reasons for an implant replacement can be varied:

Reasons for the surgery

Complications: After implantation, complications such as displacement, infection, the formation of capsular fibrosis, pain or asymmetry can occur.

In capsular fibrosis, the body forms a sheath around any implanted foreign body as a normal reaction, including the buttock implant. Over time, this sheath becomes thicker and firmer and can be felt by the patient over time. This is called capsular fibrosis. Capsular fibrosis is not dangerous, but it can be uncomfortable, cause pulling pain and change both the shape of the buttocks and the position of the implant. Capsular contracture usually only occurs after 10 to 15 years.

Desire for change: Over time, aesthetic expectations can change. Patients may then desire smaller, larger, or differently shaped implants.

Dissatisfaction with the result: If the original result does not meet expectations, replacing or removing the implants may be advisable.

Surgical Procedure

An implant replacement is performed under general anesthesia and is essentially the same procedure as implant removal. Here, too, the existing scar is used as an access point whenever possible, so that additional scarring can often be avoided or at least limited. To insert the new implants, it is usually necessary to create a new implant site. For this purpose, a new implant pocket is created in front of or behind the buttock muscle. The implants are then carefully removed or replaced with new ones. A rearrangement of the implants can be beneficial not only for aesthetic reasons but also supports tissue regeneration and may reduce the risk of complications. Finally, the wound is sutured.

Aftercare and Risks

The healing period after buttock implant surgery requires patience and careful attention. Patients must wear special compression garments for the first few weeks and should avoid prolonged sitting or direct pressure on the buttocks to ensure proper healing. Swelling, bruising, and mild pain are normal in the initial period and will gradually subside. It is crucial to follow the instructions carefully to avoid complications. Failure to follow these instructions may result in infection, bleeding, or impaired wound healing.
